Bungie Signs a Publishing Agreement With Activision

Posted by Snake Master Flex On 10:25 AM 0 comments

Bungie, developers of the famed Halo series announced today that they have officially signed a 10-year publishing deal with distributor Activision. The deal grants Activision exclusive worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future Bungie games.

The agreement is the first of its kind for Bungie since splitting from Microsoft in 2007. It will definitely give them the resources necessary to further develop games for a global audience.

“We chose to partner with Activision on our next IP because of their global reach, multi-platform experience and marketing expertise,” said Harold Ryan, President of Bungie. “From working together over the past nine months on this agreement, it is clear that Activision supports our commitment to giving our fans the best possible gaming experiences.”

“Bungie is one of the premier studios in our industry and we are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to work with their talented team over the next decade,” stated Thomas Tippl, Chief Operating Officer of Activision Blizzard. “Bungie has developed some of the most compelling and successful games, multiplayer experiences and thriving fan communities, and this alliance underscores our long-standing commitment to foster the industry’s best creative talent. Our unprecedented partnership with Bungie will enable us to broaden our pipeline of exciting new games as we continue to strengthen our industry position and pursue long-term growth opportunities.”

Bungie's games have sold more than 25 million units worldwide. The Halo franchise in particular has generated approximately $1.5 billion in revenues, according to The NPD Group, Charttrack and GfK. Whatever Bungie's next IP is, there's a good chance it could be a hit. As such, Activision noted that it does expect this agreement "to be accretive to its operating margins as of the release of the first game."

Say Goodbye to the Original Xbox Live

Posted by Snake Master Flex On 3:24 PM 0 comments

That's right, the pioneer of today's online gaming scene will be gone for good. Microsoft released this statement back in February:

On April 15 we will discontinue the Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox v1 games playable on Xbox 360 and Xbox Originals. I want to start by saying this isn't a decision we made lightly, but after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox LIVE community.

Seven years ago we laid out our vision for the connected console when we launched Xbox LIVE. We believed then that the power of the Internet to connect people would revolutionize living room entertainment. It started with amazing
multiplayer games, and we've since seen that bet pay off again and again with the launches of Xbox 360, Marketplace, Netflix and powerful social features like Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm. None of this would have been possible without the success of LIVE as a multiplayer gaming network.

Fortunately for fans of the hit Gears of War franchise there was a little snafu down at the Xbox Live headquarters. It turns out Cliff Bleszinski originally was scheduled to appear on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night to officially announce the release of Gears of War 3 in April. Unfortunately his appearance was rescheduled to Monday and nobody told Microsoft who went ahead an posted the announcement on the Xbox Live dashboard. Either way the important thing is that Gears of War 3 is officially on the way and you can color me excited to conclude this epic series.

Designed to charge any device that requires up to 5 volts of electricity, the universal wrist charger looks like it could be the next fashion trend! Ok maybe that was me being a bit overzealous, however it is a handy little device that can charge your portable devices on the go obviously for a limited amount of time. The 4 LED lights indicate what level of charge your device is at, also allowing you to ATTEMPT to pass it off as just a ridiculously fancy wrist band. The wrist charger is available on Think Geek for $35.

Major Nelson announced today that users of Xbox Live who purchased the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Map Pack will receive a 7 day credit to their Xbox Live Gold account to "reward their loyalty". Justin Bieber's Manager Arrested

Posted by Snake Master Flex On 5:46 PM 0 comments

Apparently teen pop phenom Justin Bieber's manager didn't tweet fast enough. Scott "Scooter" Brown was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment and criminal nuisance in connection with a fracas that broke out this past November in a Long Island mall.

After Brown sent out a tweet from Bieber's account reading "On my way to Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island, NY to sign and meet fans! I'm pumped. See u there." A crowd of over 3,000 flocked the mall in anticipation of the teen sensation, the only problem was the event was cancelled an hour earlier which Brown forgot to tweet causing a near riot to erupt.

The Nintendo 3DS is scheduled to be unveiled at E3 2010 in June. So far what we know is that the 3D output will come from a "parallax barrier LCD" manufactured by Sharp. Allegedly the 3DS is also suppose to feature a 3D control stick, improved battery life, and a rumble feature. Major details such as a possible release date have yet to be revealed but it seems as though Nintendo is looking to completely revolutionize the hand-held gaming market.

Unlockables include over 100 images, 40 minutes of rare and unreleased footage.

The regular edition will be available for $59.99 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, while it will set you back about $49.99 for the Wii. Twilight Saga: Eclipse Trailer

Posted by Snake Master Flex On 1:02 PM 0 comments

It was a big day at the 2010 Games Developer Conference. One of the biggest announcements came from Sony mentioning their officially named motion controller, the PlayStation Move. If you look at the controller bundles carefully, they start looking like something an air traffic controller would use. It's like a very retro version of a light saber with a glowing ball on the tip instead of the long light sword.

Sony emphasized the Move's precision factor throughout their GDC presentation and dated the release to ship this fall 2010. The Playstation Move will retail in three different packages containing the eye, the move controller and a game. According to articles across the web, they are mentioned to retail under $100.

With the current concept and pricing, it will take a lot more to "move" me out of this seat. Come on Sony, you can do better than that!
